Contract & Claim Manager (m/f/d) – Transmission

Full-time or freelance position in Hamburg or hybrid—help shape the energy transition, both at sea and on land.

As a Contract & Claim Manager (m/f/d), you will support our clients (including transmission system operators and project organizations) in the contractual and commercial management of complex infrastructure projects—from tendering to execution, and from claim prevention to negotiation and documentation.

The JUMBO Consulting Group continues to grow and is seeking experienced professionals—freelancers are also expressly welcome.

Your Responsibilities

Proactive Contract & Claim Management (tendering / awarding / early execution)

  • Analysis of tender and contract documents for commercial risks and potential claims; advising on preventive measures
  • Ensuring that processes for changes in scope (change/variation) as well as disruptions/impediments are clearly defined in the contract; advising the client during negotiations and in the execution phase
  • Ensuring appropriate escalation and dispute resolution mechanisms and providing advice in conflict situations

Contract Administration & Claim Management (Project Execution)

  • Primary point of contact for contract-related and commercial issues pertaining to the assigned matter—both internally and externally
  • Managing project execution in accordance with the contract, including change orders, adherence to agreed-upon prices, payment milestones, and deadlines
  • Recording and managing changes in scope of work; reviewing form and content; coordinating technical, commercial, and legal inputs until a decision can be made
  • Review, evaluation, and negotiation of change orders and claims; defense against unjustified claims and enforcement of justified claims
  • Drafting and taking responsibility for contract-related correspondence (e.g., notices, deadlines, notices of default) as well as audit-compliant documentation
  • Strategic preparation and management of amendment and claim negotiations; clear, auditable documentation of results
  • Early identification of potential causes of cost overruns or project disruptions and initiation of countermeasures
  • If necessary, forensic analysis of disrupted project processes

Typical service areas: Grid connections and electrical equipment (e.g., substations, platforms, converters, transformers, cable systems) as well as offshore construction and services (e.g., UXO, geological surveys, offshore services)

Governance, Reporting, Standards & Lessons Learned

  • Maintenance of claim/change registers, KPIs, and status reports; ensuring transparency toward project leadership and management
  • Preparing decision-making documents and supporting internal committee decisions
  • Conducting lessons learned workshops and continuously improving processes, templates, and standards

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree (e.g., in business administration, civil engineering, business law, law, or a comparable field)
  • Additional qualifications in project or contract management and construction operations are advantageous
  • Several years of experience in contract and claim management for large infrastructure and energy projects—ideally with offshore or international experience and in connection with grid connections and electrical equipment
  • Proficiency in handling complex contractual frameworks (including BGB, VOB/B, FIDIC, EPC/EPCI, NEC, BIMCO, and LOGIC)
  • A structured, analytical, and results-oriented approach to work; confident in stakeholder communication and negotiations
  • Languages: German at least B2 level (depending on the project), English at least C1 level
  • Proficiency in MS Office and experience with document/project management systems (e.g., ThinkProject, MS Project; DMS depending on the project)
  • Proficient in using AI-assisted systems (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) for the efficient creation and quality assurance of documentation, drafting, analyses, and reports in a project environment
  • Expertise in the development and implementation of claim strategies, audit checklists, and contract management using KPIs and audit-proof filing structures
  • Experience with large project organizations, international supplier and consortium structures, as well as interfaces with procurement, engineering, controlling, and legal
