Stiftung OFFSHORE-WINDENERGIE
International · Varel
An independent, nonpartisan foundation that promotes offshore wind energy through policy advice, research, networking, and education.
About the organisation
The OFFSHORE-WINDENERGIE Foundation was established in 2005 on the initiative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, the coastal states, and the business community. As a nonpartisan, supraregional, and independent organization, it is committed to permanently establishing offshore wind energy as part of Germany’s and Europe’s energy mix and to advancing its expansion in the interest of climate protection. Its work is based on four pillars: policy advice, knowledge exchange and research, education and public outreach, and grid and system integration. The foundation brings together policymakers, government agencies, academia, and industry—for example, through the Roundtable on Maritime Security Partnership, the Working Group on Offshore Grid Connection, and the Scientific Advisory Board. It participates in national and European research projects, produces studies and position papers, and supports consultation processes, such as those related to the Offshore Wind Energy Act. Through the traveling exhibition “Fascination Offshore,” the WIN(D)SCHOOL project, and the skilled workforce exchange, it supports the next generation of professionals and helps secure a skilled workforce. Its work is supported by a board of trustees comprising approximately 120 organizations from business, government, and academia.
